Do I need a bookkeeper?
As a business owner, you might not have the time, energy, or desire to take on your own bookkeeping. The details can be tedious and mistakes costly, so having a bookkeeper on board can take some pressure off your shoulders and give you peace of mind that your books are in the hands of a professional. That said, if we can see it’s not worth it for you to engage a bookkeeping service for your business at this time, we’ll be honest about it.
What is the difference between an accountant and a bookkeeper?
Both accountants and bookkeepers are essential parts of the accounting system. Bookkeepers record and organize financial transactions, and accountants analyze, interpret, and report that information. You can think of it as an assembly line: you (the business owner) create transactions, we (the bookkeeper) verify and categorize those transactions, and your accountant uses that information to assist you in business compliance and financial decisions. In the best scenario, your bookkeeper and accountant will work together to create a solid financial team. We are always open to creating relationships with accountants, and we will always let you know what tasks are and are not in our wheelhouse.
Do your services include tax preparation?
We can help you with your sales tax, gross receipts tax, and payroll tax filing, but we do not offer federal or state income tax preparation. Your income taxes are based on a wide view of your personal financial situation, and we are only on the business side of things. When it’s tax time, we will produce the financial statements from your business, which you and/or your accountant use to file your income taxes.
Do you take out of state clients?
Yes! We are located in New Mexico, and though we are dedicated to our local business owners, we have several clients out of state. While we love meeting our local clients in person from time to time, our services are all online/by phone, and we can operate completely remotely.
Do I need QuickBooks Online?
If you decide to work with us, then yes. We support QuickBooks Online users as an independent QuickBooks consulting service. If you already use QuickBooks Online that’s great! We can take over maintaining your account. If you don’t have QuickBooks Online yet, don’t worry! We can help you determine which plan is best for you, and you can take advantage of a special discount when we set it up for you.
Can I afford bookkeeping services?
We base our rate on the complexity of your bookkeeping needs and will always be clear and straightforward about what we are charging and why. Although it may add to your overhead, keep in mind it is a tax deductible business expense, and a good bookkeeping service will save you money by 1) catching potentially costly mistakes, 2) keeping penalties down by tracking filing deadlines, and 3) saving your accountant time (who likely charges by the hour). When weighing the value of bookkeeping to your business, consider the amount of time, money, and hassle a reliable bookkeeper might save you in the long run.
